Meet the Coaches

Development of coaches is an important part of the club's philosophy.  A number of coaches who started their coaching careers with us as students are now coaching professionally or with other clubs at national level.  We support our staff in broadening their experience and gaining further qualifications.  All our Head Coaches have experience at national or regional level, and so are up to date with recent developments in the game.

Alex Boyd returns as Head Coach of the Under 16 Boys. He has previously served as an Assistant Coach with the national league men's team.  One of the Regional Performance Centre staff, this summer, he is Head Coach of the Gloucestershire U14 girls, as well as Assistant Coach of the U15 girls' Regional Development Programme.  An avid student of the game, Alex has attended numerous clinics and courses to enhance his coaching skills, and puts a strong emphasis on fundamentals.

Paul Christensen returns to the role of Head Coach of the girls' programme for the fourth consecutive season.  He is an England Basketball Senior Coach and won over 50 caps, as Manager and subsequently Head Coach of England Under 18 Men.  Paul promotes a style of play based upon pressure defence and quick transition. He has coached against teams from around 40 countries, and is currently the Club Coaching Lead and the Performance Coach Coordinator for the South West region.

Graham Biggs brings many years of basketball experience back to the club, having previously served, alongside Paul and Alex, as an Assistant Coach on our Div 3 and 4 Senior Men national league teams. He will be working with Paul on the girls' teams, in the younger age group.

Mark Hawksbee continues as the Under 18 Men Assistant Coach, having previously held the role with Stroud Sharks  U16 Boys.

Mike Keith started his 15 years of national league playing experience as Jets Under 17 Captain in 1998, and has since played at several clubs including Sheffield and Chester.  He is a qualified Personal Trainer, owning and running his own fitness business and gym.  Mike will support teams and individual players in Strength & Conditioning.

Carlos Moreira is in his 6th season with Jets and his second as Head Coach of the Under 18 Men.  As a player, Carlos gained success at junior national level in his native Portugal.  Since moving to Gloucestershire, he has coached in three clubs locally, and is currently Head Coach for the South West Under 17 Girls team, as well as the Regional Performance Centre. Carlos has been a member of the coaching staff of the England Under 15 and 16 Girls squads, and has recently been appointed to the Great Britain staff.  He brings great passion to his coaching, and works tirelessly to help his teams achieve their best.

Ben Parkyn began his coaching career with Gloster Jets ten years ago and is now Head Coach of the Under 14 Boys, having worked with club teams at all three age groups. Another of our four coaches with senior national league playing experience, Ben has reached the national playoffs as a coach with Jets and Stroud Sharks four times.  He has also twice been Head Coach of the South West team at the Under 15 Boys Regional Development Tournament.

Alex Palmer moves up to the Assistant Coach role with the Under 16 boys.  Now an experienced Level 2 Coach, Alex will focus on the development of individual fundamental skills.

We now have several young newly qualified Level 1 and 2 coaches, and we look forward to seeing them gain on-court experience during this season.
